More on Membership

While the Junior League is known for
training, current members often bring work and life skills with
them, enhancing the JLW's overall effectiveness and efficiency.
New members complete a one-year provisional training year to decide
if the JLW is right for them before accepting Acive membership.
They receive hands-on project experience and work closely with
other Active members.
The JLW has about 45 Active members, who
are primarily responsible for carrying out all projects and activities,
and 135 Sustaining members, women who have given five or more
years of service to the JLW.
Active members organize, lead and participate
in a variety of fundraisers and community-based projects. It is
through annual fundraising that our projects are possible. Each
member contributes her time to a defined set of goals each year,
but is free to choose which areas she will serve. Through the
combined generosity and support of our members, corporate sponsorship,
and the general public, we are able to reach more needy families.
Members who choose to lead the JLW, either as
an officer or a chair of a commitee, have the opportunity to attend
conferences sponsored by the Association of Junior Leagues International,
including local Organizational Development Institute seminars
and annual meetings. Junior League officers also have the opportunity
to network with leaders of other organizations, businesses and
area government.
Many Sustaining members have gone on to lead other
non-profit organizations and for-profit businesses in the Worcester
community through the training and experience they have received
as a member. Their presence in the organization gives the JLW
a vital connection to our history as well as to the identification
of on-going community issues. They have been instrumental in establishing
the JLW Endowment Fund and have continued to offer advice in key
areas of League management.
In addition, through the JLW, you will connect
to a network of friends and fun. Most members say that through
their League involvement, they have widened their social circle
and have made lasting friendships. It is wonderful to share the
feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction with other women working
along side you.
If you live outside the Worcester area, vist the AJLI web sit to find a Junior
League near you.
