06.01.08 The Junior League of Worcester has named Sara Kelleher Sears of Holden as its new President. The appointment of Ms. Kelleher Sears represents the first time in the 84-year history of the Junior League of Worcester where the organization named the daughter of a past president to this prestigious post. Ms. Kelleher Sears mother, Maureen Kelleher was president of the Junior League in 1980.

Additional members of the JLW named to the 2007-2008 board of directors are: Kerri Martinek, President Elect of Marlborough; Colleen Colby, VP of Finance of Worcester; Brenda Dubrey, Community VP of Worcester; Mary Surette, Sustainer Rep of Shrewsbury; Maureen Harrington, Fund Development of Shrewsbury; Christin Harrington, Treasurer of Northborough; Abbygayl George, Secretary of Shrewsbury; Wendy Reynolds, Membership and Development of Worcester; and Beth Keim, Membership and Development of Worcester.

The Junior League of Worcester announced that it has awarded two $1,000 grants to the Boys and Girls Club of Worcester and the YMCA of Central Massachusetts.

Said Karla Valas, 2007-2008 JLW President, “Every year the Junior League of Worcester is pleased to present worthy organizations with funds to help them continue their work with children and women in the Worcester community.”

This year the two organizations that were selected include: The Boys and Girls Club of Worcester and the YMCA of Central Massachusetts. Each organization will receive $1,000 to fund the SMART Girls Program and the Minority Achievers Program respectively.

05.14.08 The Junior League of Worcester announced that it has awarded three $1,000 scholarships to female students in the Worcester County area for demonstrating outstanding volunteer service during their high school years.

“The Junior League of Worcester was thrilled to present scholarships to these outstanding young women. For more than one hundred years The Junior League has been a powerful outlet for female volunteers who are committed to improving their local communities,” said Karla Valas, 2007-2008 JLW President

Local scholarship recipients were chosen from a pool of young women representing private, parochial, and public schools throughout Worcester County.

04.25.07 Junior League of Worceseter announces the first ever Girls' Night Out to take place in Sutton on April 20th. This charitable event offers women an opportunity to sample scrumptious hors d'oeuvres, shop more than two-dozen trendy vendors and share a great evening with other fun and dynamic women.
04.18.07 Delegates from the JLW attend an international conference celebrating the power of women in Boston. The power of women’s volunteer leadership and the ability to transform local communities through voluntarism were the themes behind the 85th Annual Association of Junior Leagues International Inc. (AJLI) Conference held at the Boston Marriott Copley Place from April 18-22, 2007.
03.08.07 Boxer joins the good-nutrition team. The Junior League of Worcester and the Worcester District Medical Society Alliance hosted, Active Kids-Healthy Kids, a night of healthy food, fellowship, and fun for the fourth-grade students and their families at Elm Park Community School. Professional boxer, Jose Rivera joined the team to help teach kids about the importance in eating right and exercising.
03.02.07 JLW and Worcester District Medical Society team to educate community families about the importance of healthy living. As the health, activity level and weight of our youth continues to be a growing concern, “Active Kids-Healthy Kids” will take place on Wednesday, March 7th at the Elm Park Community School, was developed to educate students and their families about the importance of healthy food and staying active.
11.21.06 AJLI is pleased to announce that leading specialty retailer Talbots is extending its support of Junior League community programs and services by donating 10% of the sale of gift cards purchased at Talbots Gives Back to Leagues at the local level. This is a great ongoing fundraising opportunity to pass on to your friends and family!

The Worcester Public Schools and the Junior League of Worcester are proud to announce the kick off of the 2006 Coat for Kids program with a New Coat Drive on October 6, 2006 during World Smile Day in Worcester located on the City Hall Plaza at 12:00 noon.
This will be a drop off point for New Coats, Hats and Mittens/Gloves for Boys and Girls sizes 5-18.
06.09.06 JLW Members Serve Up "Brunch and a Book" at Faith House. The newest members of the Junior League of Worcester hosted “Brunch and a Book” on Sunday, May 7th at Faith House in Worcester. The volunteers prepared and served a Mother’s Day brunch to 17 mothers and 10 children ranging in age from 6 months to 13 years old. The JLW members also held a book drive for new and gently used women and children’s books in order to establish a library for Faith House’s current and future residents.

03.28.06 Worcester Telegram & Gazette: There will be plenty of food for thought at a literary luncheon Saturday. The Junior League of Worcester and the Worcester District Medical Society Alliance have teamed up to present two writers with local ties at a special lunchtime event at the Beechwood Hotel. The theme will be women's lives and how they are constantly evolving. Featured writers will be Ann Leary, author of "An Innocent, a Broad," and Rachel Kenary Egan, author of "Life After `I Do!'"
